DPS Road Test Requirements

DPS ROAD TEST REQUIREMENTS

FOR ROAD TEST DRIVING EXAM:

ADULTS 18+

  1. DRIVING PERMIT (with photo), PAPER OR PLASTIC CARD.
  2. I.T.Y.D. CERTIFICATE.

 

 

Road Test Important Requirement:

Completion of Impact Texas Driving (ITYD) will be required for all individuals that have taken a teen or adult driver education course or for drivers 18 and older who may or may not be required to complete a driver education course.

You are required to present a Certificate of Completion before taking a drive skills test and it must be dated within 90 days of the skills test. Complete ITYD requirements may be viewed at:

Use the calendar in the scheduler to view available dates and times.
You may schedule appointments between TWO HOURS and 2 MONTHS in advance.
Customers may only schedule one appointment.
Individuals must schedule their own appointments.
After scheduling, you will have the opportunity to view and print a confirmation page with information about preparing for your appointment.

Vehicle Requirements:

 

a.) Proof of current liability insurance for the vehicle to be used for the road test.

b.) A vehicle for the road test that meets all of these requirements:

1.- Current registration sticker.

2.- Two license plates with the front plate attached to the bumper (not required if you are borrowing the vehicle and it is properly registered in a state that does not require two plates).

 

3.- No cracked windshield and all seat belts in working order.

4.- No unusual mechanical issues (such as having doors that do not open from inside or outside the vehicle – this will result in failure of the vehicle inspection); AND
All of the vehicle safety requirements described at Driving Test Requirements.

 

Note:

If you use a rental vehicle for the test, the person taking the driving test must be listed on the rental agreement as an authorized driver.

You must show proof that the rental vehicle is covered by liability insurance either by accepting the liability damage waiver when you rent the vehicle or by showing proof that your personal auto liability insurance covers rental vehicles.

Please arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment for processing and/or payment. If you do not arrive 15 minutes early, your appointment may be rescheduled.

NO additional passengers (this includes infants, children, family members and / or friends) will be allowed in the vehicle during the driving test.
